For the Glory: The Untold and Inspiring Story of Eric Liddell, Hero of Chariots of Fire

$19.00

Eric Liddell – whose story was famously told in the movie Chariots of Fire – was an Olympic gold medalist who famously would not run on Sunday because of his faith. Liddell considered his running as something he did for the glory of God. In the 1924 Olympics in Paris, he did not compete in his signature event, the 100 meters. At the time, he was the greatest sprinter in the world. He was ridiculed by the British Olympic committee, fellow athletes and the world press. However, he would triumph in a new event, winning the 400 meters instead. After the Olympics, he would travel to China as a missionary, work in a local school, marry and start a family. Later, he was interned at a Japanese work camp, where he practiced his faith and his sport again, becoming the moral center of that intolerable world. He would die of a brain tumor just before the end of the war. His is a gripping story of faith through the darkest of circumstances.
