“The Need for a Few Good Men”

Text: Eph. 5:25

Intro:

In this 5th chapter of Ephesians, Paul depicts to us the relationship which ought to exist between husband and wife. He illustrates this by the use of the figure Christ and the Church (see verse 23).

The husband stands to the wife in the relation that the Lord does to the church, and this is to be the ground of the wife’s submission to him.

Then Paul asks in essence, “Do you wish your wife to obey you as the church is to obey Christ?” If so, then have a solicitude for her as Christ had for the church. How much love? Love her as Christ loved the church. Which means what?

Christ gave His life for the church, Paul is saying, “If it be necessary, give your life for her; don’t refuse any suffering.” Now that’s going to take more love than can spring from a weekend acquaintance, then marriage. To love your wife as Christ loved the church involves sacrifice, devotion and love of the highest christian order.

Body of Sermon:
