gift of god

Do you love to give? Ever wonder where that desire comes from? It’s not a coincidence. Rather, a giving nature is a gift, built into our DNA by God. And this gift of God allows us to do so much good for others.

You can be 100 percent sure that a giving nature is a character quality God possesses Himself. If you read the Bible, you could easily concluded that God bestowed this nature on mankind during the days of creation so many years ago. The book of Genesis describes in great detail how humans are created in the image of God.  It seems quite logical that God passed on His giving nature to humanity during that creative process.

But there is a greater reason that you can be confident that a giving nature is part of God’s character. In fact, we can conclude that God went to great lengths to show us that he is a giver. Some would even call it extreme. The evidence is found in this verse:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son; that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

The Gift of God Was the Gift of His Son

The most famous verse in the Bible tells it all. John 3;16 lays out the depth of God’s giving nature. He laid it all on the line for the people of the world.

When we look at this verse, we see that God gave. He didn’t receive and he didn’t take anything from us. He gave something very valuable so that humanity would get the chance at a relationship with Him. It’s such a staggering concept – giving up your only Son to die for the sins of mankind. It hardly makes sense. Never could we have come up with this kind of plan to bridge the gap between God and man.

God didn’t do this because He had to but because He wanted to. God’s love for humanity drove him to give and sacrifice in this way. In all reality, it gave Him great joy to be able to offer this free gift in the way He did. It gives Him even greater joy when people choose to accept it. He wants to have a relationship with you.

Tomorrow people around the world will celebrate Easter Sunday. It is the most important day of the year in the Christian faith, as believers reflect on the giving nature of God and the sacrifice His Son Jesus made for us. It’s a day to appreciate all that God has done for us and cherish the fact that we serve a risen Savior.

It is a day that offers hope for all who are troubled and are searching for meaning out of life. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is not a myth. It happened. And it was the method God had planned on using since creation for people to have a relationship with him.

God’s desire for you is peace and joy and the sure hope of eternity in heaven one day. You can find that through Jesus. Are you ready to accept him and start the journey? What better time than now for that to happen?
