Welcome to Read the Bible in a Year dot com!

This purpose of this site is to help people read the greatest book ever written – the Bible.

In the pages of the Bible, we learn how to have a proper relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ.

The first section of the book called the Old Testament serves as a prelude to the coming of Jesus. It begins with the Creation story and mankind’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden. Next we see the establishment of the nation of Israel through the life and descendants of Abraham. This is followed by the conquest of Canaan and the reign of kings. The Old Testament concludes with the conquest of Israel, their exile into foreign lands and eventual return to their homeland.

The New Testament highlights the life of Jesus. The first four books written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, tell his story with unique perspectives.  All four books culminate with the greatest miracle ever recorded – Jesus’ death on the cross and his resurrection from the dead. This miracle serves as the foundation of the Christian faith. It launched a new movement called the church – the beginning of which is outlined in the book of Acts. The rest of the New Testament consists of letters written by Jesus’ followers. They teach us the best practices for following him and living a life of faith.

You can find some more background information about the Bible on our Introduction to the Bible page.

In short, the Bible helps us have a deeper and more connected relationship with God. Just as food sustains us physically, so the words of God strengthen us spiritually.

Jesus said it best in Matt. 4:4 – “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Hopefully you are here because you have an interest in reading the Bible. The good news is that anyone can read and understand it. In fact, the idea to start this site came about because of some teenagers who were reading their Bibles together as a group. You can read that origin story here.

But sometimes people need help. That’s where we come in. This site has multiple reading plans to help guide you and set you on a course to finish the entire Bible in one year. For the average reader, it will take 10-15 minutes to complete one day’s reading. That is a small investment of time each day to engage with something that has the capacity to change your life forever.

So go to our Bible Reading Plans page and pick out a plan that interests you. A deeper life with God is waiting.
